Symphony of the Americas Presents Summerfest 2005 James Brooks-Bruzzese, Artistic Director, Conductor with the Arpeggione Chamber Orchestra Irakli Gogibedaschwili, Leader at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Sunday, August 21, 2005, at 2 p.m. Tickets are FREE and will be distributed at 9:00 AM Saturday, July 23, 2005 from the Van Wezel Box Office 777 N. Broward County’s Symphony of the Americas, Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese, Artistic Dir., presents the famed Arpeggione Chamber Orchestra from Austria, for its Summerfest 2005. Orchestral concerts feature the music of Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Corelli, Barber, Puccini and Argentine tangos of Astor Piazzola. Summerfest annually hosts an acclaimed European string orchestra for a one month cultural exchange residency throughout Florida with an extended tour to Central and South America, joined by selected members of the Symphony of the Americas, and funded in part by the State of Florida and Broward Cultural Council. The Symphony of the Americas is south Florida’s only professional orchestra, with its performance home at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The festival spans July 17th to August 30th, with concerts throughout Florida from Key West north to Palm Beach, as well as Tampa & Sarasota. Cultural exchange performances continue in Central & South America locations of Brazil, Panama, Nicaragua and Haiti. Activities include performances, master classes, and educational outreach, taking the masterful sounds of this great ensemble to audiences in corners of the world who have never before experienced the exhilaration of live performances of great composers. With repertoire ranging from Baroque to Contemporary music, the Arpeggione under the artistic direction of its founder, Irakli Gogibedaschwili, is renowned for its virtuosity and first-rate soloists. Concert tours include the esteemed Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Grand Philharmonic Hall of St. Petersburg, Zurich’s Tonhalle, and the Innsbruck & Bregenz Music Festivals.
