The Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1978 as an outgrowth of the need for the symphonic repertoire of the 18th, 19th and 20th, centuries to be broadcast throughout Russia for the benefit of its citizens. Following the European music tradition the Orchestra does not have a permanent chief Conductor. To promote continuing development and mastery of the musicians the music director invites maestros from Russia and abroad to conduct the orchestra. The Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra is one of the best Moscow orchestras.

The Orchestra expanded its activities into Russian television, including projects with Korean KBC and German ZDF. In 1980 the Orchestra created a major subscription series in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall and Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. The Orchestra’s first music director was Alexander Mikhailov, who received his education with Evgheny Mravinsky and Ilia Musin. He headed the Orchestra until 1996 before Anatoli Nemudrov (a disciple of Danila Tulin) assumed the music directorship.

Curtain Calls are your opportunity to learn more about the creative process with our visiting artists. These informal pre- or post-performance discussions, all held at the Van Wezel, are FREE and open to the public. No tickets are required. Please join us!
A group begins with as few as 20 people attending the same performance, and is a great way to get together with friends and family or treat your employees and clients.
Group Perks
Group purchases enjoy a 10% discount from regular prices for most performances. We also offer personal group representatives to aid with handling the specific details of your event. Convenient motor coach parking is available to make arrivals and departures a snap, and pre-show meals can be easily handled by our special on-site catering. Pre or post show performer chats are also sometimes available for many performances.

Let us know which section you would like to sit in and any special setting requests you may have. We will send you an invoice. A 25% non-refundable down payment is required and full payment is due no later than 60 days prior to the performance. Tickets are mailed when full payment is received.

Special Requests
The Van Wezel strives to ensure that all people, regardless of ability, can enjoy our programming and our facility. Both the Main and Bayside lobbies are now completely accessible to people with disabilities. If you have a special request for accessible seating or special assistance materials, please contact the Box Office at 941-953-3368 at least three weeks in advance of the event. Elevators in both lobbies provide easy access to all levels of the Hall, including the Grand Foyer and Auditorium. In the auditorium, wheelchair seating is available in Sections A and C. Wheelchair patrons can be accommodated in restrooms off both lobbies.
For the Hard of Hearing
The Van Wezel offers the Sennheiser Infrared listening system. The Sennheiser system makes it possible for those with a hearing loss of up to 75% to hear a program from any seat in the auditorium. Sennheiser headsets are available for use free of charge in both lobbies before each show.
Patrons in Wheelchairs
Patrons in wheelchairs may enter through automatic doors in both Main and Bayside lobbies on ground level (no stairs). Only disabled patrons with tickets in wheelchair section may use the free parking facilities on the circle outside the Main Entrance. Your cooperation is requested. Additional free parking for handicapped is provided in the regular parking area. Cars must have necessary identification to qualify for these special arrangements. Wheelchair patrons can be accommodated in restrooms off both lobbies. There is a wheelchair on the premises for emergency use, thanks to the generosity of Easter Seals.
