Lang Lang has become the face of numerous global campaigns. Lang Lang began playing piano at the age of 3 and by the age of 5 he had won the Shenyang competition and had given his first public recital. Entering Beijing’s Central Music Conservatory at age 9, he won first prize at the Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians Competition and played the complete 24 Chopin Études at the Beijing Concert Hall at age 13. Lang Lang’s break into stardom came at age 17 when he was called upon for a dramatic last-minute substitution at the “Gala of the Century,” playing the Tchaikovsky concerto with the Chicago Symphony. Following this gigantic debut, he performed successful concerts around the world – The Times in London remarked: “Lang Lang took a sold-out Albert Hall by storm… This could well be history in the making.” He has made numerous TV appearances, including The Today Show, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, CBS Early Show and 60 Minutes among many others. Lang Lang has been featured on every major TV network and in news and lifestyle magazines worldwide, including such diverse publications as The New Yorker, Esquire, Vogue, The Times, Financial Times, GQ, Cosmopolitan, Die Welt, Reader’s Digest and People. Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as the “biggest, most exciting keyboard talent encountered in many years,” Lang Lang has progressed from one triumphant appearance to the next.

Curtain Calls are your opportunity to learn more about the creative process with our visiting artists. These informal pre- or post-performance discussions, all held at the Van Wezel, are FREE and open to the public. No tickets are required. Please join us!
A group begins with as few as 20 people attending the same performance, and is a great way to get together with friends and family or treat your employees and clients.

Group purchases enjoy a 10% discount from regular prices for most performances. We also offer personal group representatives to aid with handling the specific details of your event. Convenient motor coach parking is available to make arrivals and departures a snap, and pre-show meals can be easily handled by our special on-site catering. Pre or post show performer chats are also sometimes available for many performances.

Special Requests
The Van Wezel strives to ensure that all people, regardless of ability, can enjoy our programming and our facility. Both the Main and Bayside lobbies are now completely accessible to people with disabilities. If you have a special request for accessible seating or special assistance materials, please contact the Box Office at 941-953-3368 at least three weeks in advance of the event. Elevators in both lobbies provide easy access to all levels of the Hall, including the Grand Foyer and Auditorium. In the auditorium, wheelchair seating is available in Sections A and C. Wheelchair patrons can be accommodated in restrooms off both lobbies.
For the Hard of Hearing
The Van Wezel offers the Sennheiser Infrared listening system. The Sennheiser system makes it possible for those with a hearing loss of up to 75% to hear a program from any seat in the auditorium. Sennheiser headsets are available for use free of charge in both lobbies before each show.
Patrons in Wheelchairs
Patrons in wheelchairs may enter through automatic doors in both Main and Bayside lobbies on ground level (no stairs). Only disabled patrons with tickets in wheelchair section may use the free parking facilities on the circle outside the Main Entrance. Your cooperation is requested. Additional free parking for handicapped is provided in the regular parking area. Cars must have necessary identification to qualify for these special arrangements. Wheelchair patrons can be accommodated in restrooms off both lobbies. There is a wheelchair on the premises for emergency use, thanks to the generosity of Easter Seals.
