One of the world’s leading orchestras comes to the Van Wezel as part of its U.S. Tour in a program that includes Partos’ Concertino for Strings, Schubert’s Symphony No. 3 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, (“Pathetique”). This U.S. Tour was to mark Zubin Mehta’s final U.S. tour before he retires as Music Director of the IPO but due to recent health reasons has been forced to bow out. All U.S. Tour concerts will now be led by internationally-acclaimed conductor Yoel Levi and performed in recognition of Maestro Mehta. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is the leading orchestra in Israel and globally recognized as a world-class symphonic ensemble. Since its inception, the IPO has enjoyed long-lasting relationships with renowned soloists and conductors which have kept it at the forefront of the classical music world. Yoel Levi has had a long-standing relationship with the IPO, notably as the first Israeli to serve as Principal Guest Conductor of the orchestra since 2001. Levi is currently Chief Conductor of the KBS Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, Korea and has conducted many of the most prestigious orchestras throughout the world.
